Move Confidently with Functional Movement My philosophy: Stabilize then move. First move well, then move often.
I prefer to think of exercise as just a sequence of movements, and Functional Movement is way of correcting movements so that your brain sends the right signals when you move.
Just think of your day for a minute, it's filled with movement (yes, even if you sit a lot) you still get up to go to the bathroom right?? That's still movement!
Stability provides you with the ability to have or gain mobility. Your body is so very intelligent, for example, If you suffer with chronic tight muscles, that' a message from your body saying its doing it's best to stabilize and it inadvertently overloads other areas. Overloading is the most common reason for back pain. Overload occurs as a result of improper function and balance of the abdominal muscles, diaphragm, pelvic floor and back muscles. To improve the overload we need to correct both the function and the timing of these muscles.
How do we go about correcting it all - no - it's not hours of stretching and pushing weights at the gym! I use a method using Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization to look at your integrated movement systems and find where your body is most imbalanced. This is where we and begin. What is Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization Its a program based on ontogenesis, motor control largely established during the first critical years of life. The nervous system establishes programs that control human posture, movement and gait. DNS assess and restores dysfunction of the movement systems
